Jack Eats

On Easter, Jack found some chocolate from the Easter bunny.
He found a hard time hiding the evidence.
"It wasn't me...it was Daddy!"

A few weeks ago, we started feeding Jack some solid foods.

Applesauce seemed to be his favorite.

But he'll eat pretty much anything.
He's eating a card he got in the mail from Grandma Hummel.

This is the blanket that came with the card. He likes to eat it too!

Before sweet potatoes.

"Mom, I'm ready!"

"Oh yeah, that's tasty!"

"Yo, you can join me if you want."

"Those sweet potatoes didn't sit too well with me."
The rash story, etc.: On May 7th we fed Jack some sweet potatoes, milk, and it was off to bed. Michael and I stayed up talking for a bit. We heard him cough, checked on him, and he seemed fine. Ten minutes later he made some more noise and when we went to check on him, he had thrown up ALL over. Hopefully he didn’t aspirate any of his vomit. As we cleaned him up we noticed that even though he was awake, he wasn’t moving like normal. Very limp and lethargic. He was pale as a ghost too. I know he’s already a pale kid, but I’ve never seen anyone so pale. He threw up again, so we decided to take him to the hospital. We had to wake up our neighbors and borrow their car because Megan had borrowed our car that night. He vomited a few times in the ER and they decided to give him an IV. Immediately he started to look better. It was a long night. The doctor said we could leave if he could drink some Pedialyte and keep it down. After half of an ounce he found he didn’t like the taste of it. We had to trick him into drinking another ounce of it, but thankfully he kept it down and we were able to go home. So, from 3 until about 8:30 we were at the hospital. We slept most of the next day away. The next Monday (the 11th) we fed him some more sweet potatoes. That night he started vomiting again. I stayed up with him on the couch to make sure he didn’t choke. When I woke up the next morning he had a fever and a red splotchy rash all over his body (pictured above). We took him to the pediatrician that morning and were reassured as to what to do. No more solid foods for a few weeks. Plus, the rash was probably from an allergy to something in a new formula we had introduced to him on the 11th. The rash went mostly away by late afternoon. Last Friday was Jack’s 4-month well-baby check up. He weighs 14 lbs. 8 oz. and is two feet tall. He’s in the 50th percentile for weight at height, but in the 80th-95th percentile for head circumference. He’s got a huge noggin! My little genius. Needless to say, as much as I like our pediatrician, I am quite sick of going to the doctor and would be happy to not go again until his 6-month well-baby check up.
